The Importance of Waakye

Waakye a Ghanaian dish, pronounced (Wa-che) is an interesting combination of spaghetti (supper-ghetti as the Ghanaian ladies say) with an orange sauce, rice and peas boiled with the husk of millet (wheat - leaves / stalk), a boiled egg, meat - fish, chicken, wele (skin of which animal I don’t know), and a pepper paste made with ground peppers and ground red herring and ginger… we call this “Solomon Gundy” in Jamaica.

So what is the significance of Waakye, outside of the fact that I just had it for lunch: Delicious I might add. Read more

a walk in the village

“Two weeks away feels like the whole world should have changed, but I’m home now and things still look the same” - Dido, sand in my shoes.

No real purpose for starting the blog that way. I just thought about the song. It is sunday the 25th. The 25th day of any given month is often my most prolific; not that I am superstitious, I just look at the records. Most of my work is date stamped 25th [any given month]. I am anal like that. I have a record of every thing that has happened in life going back to June 1998, including specific times.

That should be scary, or the basis of a disease that sounds like a rap group… you know — da OCD. Ya down wid OCD… yeah you know me… Da Ol’ Controlling Dastard. While we are at it, shall we all just get Krunk [said in most proper British accent].

Yes you can take that as a sign that I am not a big hip / hop / rap fan. I like my music slow, sultry and often undiscovered by the mainstream. I also like my music fast, manic and undiscovered by the mainstream… so Im a kinda manic de-stressing kinda music fan. Sarah MacLachan meets Prodigy.

Can you just picture the remix. wow. Read more

Sekani [Re]Design

sekanidesign01.jpg

In an effort to reporpose the content of Sekani Design for Pilachi [similar to Macromedia's transition to Adobe, At&t transition to Cingular then back to the new At&t, Alias' transition to Autodesk, well... maybe not really] the existing graphics will be used until the new unified approach is ready for air time.

Here are selected images from the existing Sekani Design site: before redesign. The first image below shows one of the original freehand sketches that was developed to scale. It was such a close representation to the final design, that it was used as the “About” section of the website.

sekanidesign_about.jpg

One of the main changes in the version 2 website developed for Pilachi: the information architecture changes significantly. Instead of the navigation showing “Art, Architecture, Graphic Design,” the categories and services offered change significantly. The categories now occur along a simple matrix of sliding continuum[s] for development (urban design, architecture and industrial design) and communication [design] (for print, screen and web).

another experiment in narrative styling

Ok… so here is another experiment in narrative styling.

While listening to a podcast by Debbie Millman, a talk radio designer, I started to pick words out of her monologue. Then spaced them out, then made them bold, then went back to the top and added another layer, un-bolded. Then added thoughts on what she was saying, then added direct quotes, then stopped… and read it, to see if it made any sense at all.

What do you think? [ Not that I really care... but it is polite to ask. ] :-)

cardboard cereal

Writing without a subject is subject to rites of passage along passage ways that go nowhere. No one knows what that means.

Neither do I.

So shall the male and female subterfuge begin to speak about the internal monolithic dialogue? probably not today. The voices were silenced by cardboard and chalk and paperback novels disguised a political bantering and agenda-less speech. Silence is golden… and raw ore is only a basal material if not refined by the brandished fury of latent energy waiting to be unleashed. Read more
